RelayMag is an independent publication about marketing, search, and the business of being found. We cover how companies get discovered and chosen, the channels that decide it, and the research behind what actually works.

We started RelayMag because most writing about this subject falls into one of two traps. It is either a thinly disguised pitch for whatever the author happens to sell, or it is so hedged and cautious that it never says anything useful. We wanted a third option, writing that takes a position, backs it with evidence, and stays honest about what it does not know.

Who writes this

RelayMag is put together by a small group of writers and analysts who have spent years working in and around search, content, brand, and growth, on the agency side and in-house. We have run programs, shipped content at scale, and made plenty of the mistakes we now write about. We cover the work because we have done the work.

What we cover

Our beat is how attention moves and how companies earn it. That means search and how people find what they are looking for, content and what actually gets read, brand and why it lasts, and the growth tactics that work right up until everyone copies them. We publish plain-language explainers, original research and data, reviews and comparisons of the tools in the space, and essays that argue a point worth arguing.

How we evaluate

When we look at a tool or a provider, we judge it on the merits. Whether it does what it claims, who it is genuinely right for, and where it falls short. We name weaknesses as readily as strengths, and we try to tell you who a product is wrong for, not only who it is right for. We would rather be useful than flattering.

Independence and how we work

RelayMag is editorially independent. No company pays for coverage, and no vendor reviews a piece before it runs. When we use data, we reach for the most reputable sources we can find and we are clear about where a figure comes from and how much weight it can hold. When we get something wrong, we fix it and note what changed.
